What people say…

A huge thank you to Lisa Mangan. A Parliamentary Inquiry Report is always going to be complex and nuanced - there were numerous findings, recommendations, evidence and a range of policy and clinical stakeholders. At the heart of the inquiry was heart-breaking lived experience and a set of actions to improve health outcomes, save lives and save NHS costs.

Thanks to Lisa, the JDRF team developed the key messaging in the media training, balancing the hard hitting nature of systemic treatment failings, with support for people who are living with Type 1 and Disordered Eating. We were able to then test the messages through the studio media training.

We practised how the report would play out with specific media - including BBC Breakfast. This meant when we launched and BBC Breakfast wanted to feature us on the sofa for an interview on the T1DE Parliamentary Inquiry - that I felt prepared, able to answer any questions with the skills and techniques to be in control of the interview and the messaging.

Would recommend @LisaMangan for all media training - hugely valuable.

— Hilary Nathan, Policy, Comms + Community Director, JDRF

“Thank you Lisa. I'm so far from being a natural public speaker but your brilliant training kicked in the second I sat on the BBC Breakfast sofa, all nerves were gone and I could just focus on what I was there for. Thank you for being so good at what you do ❤️”

— Estelle Stephenson,Head of Health Partnerships & Community Resuscitation at British Heart Foundation

Just wanted to say a huge thank you. It was probably one of the best days training I’ve had in terms of how much I learnt and how quickly I was able to act on these learnings and feedback, so thank you. Despite the nerves, it was hugely enjoyable! I’ll definitely be recommending this course to others.”

Lisa was really excellent. I’ve participated in a number of media training courses before including being interviewed by Today programme presenters. She was every bit as good at interviewing and really insightful and helpful with her feedback on performances.

— Executive group crisis media training attendee

Lisa was a fantastic trainer and I felt she put me at ease to get the best out of me on the course. Watching and listening back to the practices that we did was really useful to learn how to improve.

— Refresher one-day media training attendee

“Lisa was fantastic. Easy going, straightforward, honest and extremely helpful in navigating the opportunities and challenges of broadcast media. I was very nervous prior to this training but she helped to put me at ease and equip me with the tools necessary to represent our charity in the media with confidence and enthusiasm. Couldn’t recommend her more.”

“Lisa's evident breadth of experience was clear every session. She was fantastic at adjusting to different people's experience levels and was sure to offer both helpful critique and encouragement. Not only did the training help our spokespeople feel more confident, it also helped hone our organisation's ability to communicate quite a complicated concept to a wider audience. Everyone who attended a session came out singing Lisa's praises. I couldn't recommend her highly enough!”

“Lisa really tailored her work with us to the situations we were likely to find ourselves in and made sure we got a real taste of the different pressures of prepping quickly, live and pre-recorded radio, on street and down the line TV interviews etc. It was good there were only 3 of us as there was very little down time and we packed a lot in - I genuinely feel like I got about 6 months of experience in 6 hours. Lisa is incredibly professional and experienced and great fun to work with.”

— One-day studio media training attendee

“Excruciating though it was (!), it was really useful to hear and see myself. There is no substitute for actually having a go, if we had only learnt about it in theory it wouldn't have been so useful. My biggest takeaways are how to structure my prep and the technique for tackling tricky questions.”

— One-day studio media training attendee

“Just wonderful! We were out of our comfort zone but Lisa put us at ease immediately. Lisa is obviously very experienced and the training was delivered expertly and naturally. Lisa is so warm and positive that it made for a really enjoyable day. The training has really improved my confidence overall. Thank you Lisa!”

— One-day studio media training attendee

“Having had zero media experience or training prior to this, I found the course content incredibly useful. Covering the basics but also keeping everything relevant to our work was a really helpful way to learn the techniques. In addition to the useful feedback on my own practice runs, I actually found the background about what media is looking for really useful. For example, the fact that the media aren’t trying to trick you, what difficult questions look like and how to answer them. All of the fundamentals I learned are really useful to my role – not only for media interviews but also to better understand the perspective of our media team when they are consulting our team with stats questions.”

- Head of Health Analytics, BHF

“This training was refresher for me, and it was one of the best I’ve received. The content was clear, the session ran smoothly, and there were several opportunities for reflection. There were ample exercises to apply the lessons in hands-on interviews, and the personalised feedback from each one helped reinforce the learning.”

“Good feedback on practical sessions and advice on how to improve answers/technique. Realistic interviewer!”

- Comms Officer, MS Society

“What did I find most useful about the day? The variety of media experiences that we were exposed to.

What did I like most about the day? The ease and enjoyment of which Lisa and her colleagues trained us. It was such a laugh!”
